New Browser On The Block
Written by J. Gohil

Google releases new 'Chrome' browser.Google once again has broadened its scope into all things Internet, with the new Google 'Chrome' browser.  With Google Android phones right around the corner, it's hard to believe these two investments in better Web related technology aren't somehow linked.

While we currently support cross-browser coding, it's clear that the browser to beat is Firefox 3.  But based on the following introductory video, Google is poised to make the Chrome a very important member of their product offerings.

Chrome represents an evolution in the now-heated browser market.  While Internet Explorer has only begrudgingly been updated to be a little less dangerous to use - it's hardly a testament to MS innovation.  With Internet Explorer 8 on the horizon, Microsoft once again has a chance to assert itself into a market it once dominated.

That said, here is a great resource that includes some initial speed and compatibility tests between the most recent <available> iterations of each browser.

Dijital Media is committed to providing our clients with websites that are not only compatible with current browsers, but we are eager to explore new technological possibilities as more browsers enter the market.

Note: I didn't mention Safari even though it's available for Windows now, simply because it doesn't match the polish speed of its native Mac counterpart.  For a browser to be a considered in this running, it must run equally well across all major platforms.

I believe there is much more to this browser release than Google is publicly admitting.  In fact, it's no secret that Google Apps has been a big focus for the Search giant in the past two years.  While their apps were initially marketed as a "Free Alternative to MS Office" - Google was quick to add functionality and support that allowed it to enter the Business market.  Dijital Media is currently using the Google Office Suite for Business - less out of necessity and more out of curiousity.  We still haven't made up our minds as to the true value of it.  You can be sure, once we've put it through its paces, we'll have a great article that breaks down its potential value to small and mid-sized businesses in St. Louis, MO.  In the process of expansion, it's entirely likely that Google has a new platform for their hosted apps - and rather than ensure compatibility with the like of Interent Explorer or even Firefox, 'Chrome' will have native support for Google Apps.
